These little monsters are a small, but ferocious species of primitive aliens hailing from a snow planet. They're the dominant species of their planet, and shouldn't be underestimated from their small stature. Sure their nickname is intentionally demeaning, as they tend to not be very threatening as a single individual. But what these guys lack in size, they make up for in numbers and attitude.

Biology

"Anklebiters" are strictly carnivorous, and as such have razor sharp teeth and claws to use towards their hunting, with surprising jaw strength for their size. They tend to lock their jaws and not let go once they've gotten a good bite in, and can be very difficult to get off without causing more injury. They are vicious hunters, and can be incredibly dangerous with a whole pack there to back them up.

They also usually are covered with spikes and spines, and often sport large horns on their heads. They have thick skin along with dense bones that make them remarkably sturdy in a fight. Anklebiters tend to be heavier than they might appear with their dense and compact bodies. Their large eyes glow, and have excellent night vision. They also have nictitating membranes that can cover their eyes in a fight. These membranes tend to diffuse the light from their eyes, causing them to appear as one color.

Along with their compact bodies, Anklebiters are also covered in thick, fluffy fur to protect them from the harsh cold of their planet, as well as one last layer of protection in fights. They do have a layer of fat covering their bodies as another protection from the cold, causing them to look a bit chubby. Lastly, anklebiters also have large paws, providing lots of surface area to allow them to easily travel through ice and snow.

Society

Anklebiters are still fairly primitive, living in large pack like family systems. Its not uncommon for packs to merge, or even just simply work together on a temporary basis to fend off larger threats or take down large prey. While they're hostile to almost anything that's not another anklebiter, they're exceptionally cooperative with fellow pack members, and will often work together to take care of each others young.

While generally hostile to outsiders, Anklebiters are also curious and mischievous, and are drawn to anything new. Now they might express their curiosity and explore while using their teeth, and take delight in scaring anything new to them, but they are curious none the less.

The species is capable of building simple structures and tools, as well as learning how to use more advanced technology if you make the mistake of giving them access to it. While primitive, they have an intelligence to rival that of humans, and are capable of learning other languages if taught.

It is possible to reason with anklebiters and form alliances and friendships with them, but it can prove to be difficult due to their hostile nature, and even more difficult if they are with their pack. Bring lots of food to share, or cool knickknacks and doodads to sate their curiosity
